Umbraco Installation Redesign and Relaunch

In 2009, I implemented a rather complex redesign and relaunch of 5 PRIME's corporate web site.

Umbraco, the underlying open-source content management system (CMS), heavily makes use of XML technologies. Due to years of hit-and-run maintenance of changing personnel, 5 PRIME's Umbraco installation had accumulated a lot of cruft. I went through great efforts and succeded in consolidating the mess of table-based HTML templates, Umbraco macros and various configurations. The result of the cleaned-up templates and all-new stylesheets received much praise by both customers and colleages. The site works across all modern browsers as well as on the undead beast that is MSIE6.

In the context of the redesign I suggested to make use of Google Analytics to find out about the website visitors, typical usage as well as it's strengths and weaknesses. This suggestion was well-received by the marketing department.

In the meanwhile, the company moved on to another CMS. However, huge parts of my efforts can still be seen live. My successors that were assigned with the migration were happy to find a rather clean codebase to work with.
